Photos from proto-markets

Packing some art supplies that I have from home. Since our theme was nostalgic, I mainly focused on something that could use by primary school art class

We hanged up a poster in front of the classroom to give out instructions

structure refining

During class when we pair up with another team, we are already starting a great system. That encourages how working together and sharing ideas would help improve the market place.

In class on Wednesday 10th August, we paired up with another group and discussed each of our researched structures. Then again we paired up with another two groups where we discussed the idea even further, we were able to merge together a the pyramid structure, Organic Structure within the spider structure. This was then presented to the class then taken to a class vote.

We also discussed a potential idea revolving around the spider structure when 4 teams group up and work on a stall together, this encourages teams to collaborate and also for the market place to stick to a theme throughout the experience.

Precedents - Organisational Models - The 'Spider' Structure

As a group task, we were required to research a organisational structure that would be suitable for our market place. We decided to create our own structure based on existing information.

We discussed how this structure would/ and wouldn't work listing the pros and cons. We felt this is a suitable structure for the market place as it would allow the teams to work together and for the market to flow well.

developing systems of exchange

Today in class we discussed the systems of exchange everyone had looked at and refined some to pick some key systems that could work well in context with our market. Our groups did the connection bank idea, looking at how we can exchange ideas, discussion, experiences/stories, emotions & feelings etc as a form of 'payment' to help create conversation and grow relationships.

systems of exchange

As homework this week we had to research & create a slide on a system of exchange that we could use in our marketplace instead of capitalism.

Tokens

What is the system and how does it work?
Everyone starts with a set amount of tokens, stall holders will receive more when their product is purchased.

Split the amount of stalls so some provide a product where it is ‘experience based’ (where customers can earn tokens) and other stalls provide products such as food, items etc. (where they can purchase using their tokens).

Have someone from marketing group (if we have one) walking around who will ask survey questions to the public and in return they can receive tokens (e.g. 10).

When you enter the market, you can be put in the draw to win a prize. So everyone can be a winner :)))

What is being exchanged and how/by whom is its value determined?
By the stall holder as they get to pick how much they would like to sell their product.

Pros/Opportunities
You can potentially win something in the end. Word of mouth - cool event lol
Encourages people to talk and do surveys

Cons/ Challenges
Commitment to earn the token in order to enjoy the overall marketplace concept.
If the public are not outgoing or keen it wouldn’t work out.

Cost and Material
Will look into it further in regards to materials to make the tokens
